Coris UK Ltd has become the first British based organisation to become an official supporter of the Charter of Road Traffic Victims’ Rights. They said they made this decision as supporting the Charter, “means standing with every person whose life has been changed by a road traffic incident”.
The Charter of Road Traffic Victims’ Rights is a set of ideals which aim to serve as a voluntary code of conduct for those involved in the compensation of road traffic victims. It’s goal is to ensure the victims of road traffic accidents receive the best possible assistance. To achieve that objective, it seeks to encourage companies and organisations across the insurance industry to provide the care and compensation those victims are due.
The Charter was developed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), COB (formerly known as the Council of Bureaux) and the Institute for European Traffic Law (IETL). Inspired by the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights, these three international organisations wanted to create a code that promoted and protected the rights of the thousands of people who find themselves the victims of road traffic accidents every year.
Coris UK was formed in 1987 and principally acts as a Third Party Administrator (TPA) and Green Card handling agent on behalf of insurers across Europe. They also provide a varied range of claim solutions to insurer clients and network partners.
Speaking about their decision to support the Charter, Nick Lavelle, Managing Director of Coris UK Ltd said, “We wholeheartedly support the Charter of Road Traffic Victims’ Rights and its purpose. In Coris UK, our principle role is defending claims on behalf of overseas insurers. It is important during this process not to forget the victim’s rightful access to justice.
“Whether it is the reimbursement of a modest policy excess on an insurance policy, or a significant catastrophic injury claim, we must work with both our client insurer and the victim’s representative to ensure that where liable we cooperate fully and ensure full and prompt compensation. Respect between the parties is key to ensure a good working relationship and allow for a smooth claims’ process without barriers.
“Supporting the Charter means standing with every person whose life has been forever changed by a road traffic incident. It’s about justice, dignity, and ensuring that victims and their families are not left behind, but given the compensation they deserve whether this is from a claimant or defendant perspective,” Mr. Lavelle concluded.
