UOS, also known as the Association of Serbian Insurers, are official supporters of the Charter of Road Traffic Victims' Rights

“Helping and protecting those in need is the very essence of being humane” – UOS

Becoming an official supporter of the Charter of Road Traffic Victims’ Rights is an expression of humanity and “helping and protecting those in need is the very essence of being humane”. That’s according to the Association of Insurers of Serbia (Udruženje osiguravača Srbije (UOS)) who have added their backing to the Charter.

Headquartered in Belgrade, UOS is a non-profit organisation that performs activities of common interest to the members of the association aimed at the  improvement and development of insurance. The association also carries on public duties provided by the law on compulsory traffic insurance, such as acting as Guarantee Fund, Green Card Bureau and Information Centre.

UOS was founded in 1968 by the insurance and reinsurance companies operating in the Serbian market. The number of members of the association currently stands at 19 in total. Membership is mandatory to those companies that operate MTPL insurance.

One of the main focuses of the association is education, with a key objective to raise awareness and introduce the general market to the benefits of insurance. The Association of Insurers of Serbia also organises counselling, workshops, seminars and conferences for its members and general public alike, the main goal of which is further development and the implementation of modern trends in insurance, with a strong focus on end-users.

Speaking about their decision to become an official supporter of the Charter, Secretary General, Mr Duško Jovanović said, “UOS is proud of the role we play in the continual upgrading of standards towards protecting victims. That is why we find supporting the Charter of Road Traffic Victims’ Rights a natural fit, as it coincides with all the principles we are committed to, in both our strategic and day to day work.

“Supporting the Charter displays commitment to the very best of virtues embodied in insurance principles. This is an important value to UOS and to our members. It is an expression of humanity. We want victims to be properly looked after and to receive the compensation they are due and the compassion they deserve. Afterall, helping and protecting those in need is the very essence of being humane,” Mr. Jovanović concluded.

Developed by COB, the Institute for European Traffic Law (IETL) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Charter of Road Traffic Victims’ Rights was developed to help the victims of road traffic accidents. It is a set of principles which seek to ensure those victims receive the care and compassion they are due from those in the insurance industry involved in delivering compensation.
