The Gabinete Português de Carta Verde (GPCV) has said that greater support for the Charter will lead to greater cross border safety, as they became the latest organisation to sign up as official supporters of the Charter.
Also known as the Portuguese Green Card Bureau, GPCV is a non-profit association who serves as the Portuguese national insurance service within the scope of the Green Card System. For those residing in Portugal, GPCV’s most important role is to guarantee compensation to victims of road accidents caused by vehicles registered in foreign countries located in the Green Card area. Their key principle is to protect the victims of cross-border traffic accidents.
Given their professional focus, their principles align with the Charter of Road Traffic Victims’ Rights, which was established to help all those who may be impacted by road traffic accidents receive the best possible assistance.
The Charter was established by COB, the Institute for European Traffic Law (IETL) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), drawing on the ideals behind the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, seeking to ensure a focus on the thousands of people who are impacted by road traffic accidents throughout the Green Card area each year.
Speaking about GPCV’s decision to support the Charter, their Manager, Bernardo Márquez said, “We have decided to publicly support the ideals of the Charter as they reflect principles and a set of good practices that we believe in and defend. The greater the support for the Charter, the greater the safety environment in cross-border traffic and the greater the confidence in the systems for protecting victims of traffic accidents. That is in the interests of everyone involved with the Green Card System and we are delighted to add our support to all the Charter represents,” he said.
